Laurens's writing shines."-Publishers Weekly"Laurens's delicious second Adventurers Quartet Regency romance introduces protagonists whose compatibility develops from their matched wits and bravery, making them charming collaborators. Capt. Robert Frobisher is envious of his brother Declan's happy life as a newlywed and decides that after he has completed the mission Declan began (in The Lady's Command), he will find himself a wife. Robert is certain that he doesn't want a woman like Declan's beloved Edwina, preferring someone less "forceful." However, on his mission to discover who is behind the disappearance of numerous adults and children, he runs across Aileen Hopkins. Robert's "inner diplomat" relents to "the buccaneer in him," and he finds himself drawn to Aileen's strong will and determination. Their romantic interest in each other, slow-brewed with the increasing tension of the mystery, is natural and credible, and their lovemaking scenes are simmering and sensual. The narrative's changing perspectives keep the story moving quickly. Laurens deftly balances action with dialogue and description, creating an intriguing and suspenseful novel that is equally effective whether read as a sequel or on it's own." -Publisher's Weekly, starred review"Stephanie Laurens never fails to entertain and charm her readers with vibrant plots, snappy dialogue and unforgettable characters." -Historical Romance Reviews"One of the most talented authors on the scene today... Laurens has a real talent for writing sensuous and compelling love scenes." -Romance Reviews"Stephanie Laurens plays into readers' fantasies like a master and claims their hearts time and again." -RT Book ReviewsLaurens's writing shines."-Publishers Weekly --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Review Text

I had forgotten that I had pre-ordered this book. Given my previous review of the first book in the series, I almost didn't read it but felt that as it had been delivered to my Kindle I might as well give it a go.I always strive to be honest in my reviews and have to say at this point that I mostly enjoyed this book. The storyline is pacy and one can recognise the skill and writing flair of Ms Laurens, something that has been sadly missing in her recent books. The on-going saga of the Frobisher brothers and their missions to solve the riddle of an illegal diamond mine in Africa and the kidnapped slaves, used to mine the diamonds, is a good plot. Reading the synopsis, I immediately wanted to read about their romances and the adventures they experienced along the way,This book is a good read, the relationship between Robert and Aileen, rattles along and their adventures are told in a dramatic style. I far preferred them to the characters of Declan and Edwina and I can't wait to find out what happens next. I look forward, with anticipation to the next book in the series - the story of Caleb Frobisher.Yes, the obligatory sex scenes are still there, yes there's a lot of pseudo analysis of how and why the romantic characters are attracted to each other but they were easily skipped over. I don't dislike descriptions of sexual encounters (wow, try reading Kate Pearce) but there is still too many, overly descriptive paragraphs, harping on about their innermost thoughts and feelings. Why does Ms Lauren's concentrate so much on these aspects of her characters? I feel that her emphasis on how or why her main characters fall in love and consequently have sex is very heavy on the psycho-babble and lacks the romantic qualities we all want from our heroes and heroines.I am truly looking forward to the next two books in this series. At last, the message seems to be getting through to an author, who can truly write, exciting, interesting stories, which feature strong, dynamic lead characters, that what her loyal fans enjoy ( well this one does) are lovely, warm-hearted romances, laced with adventure.More of what we love please and what we long-time readers KNOW you can deliver Ms Laurens.

The second book in this series, this is Robert's adventure. Following the clues to discover more information behind the disappearances first seen by Declan and Edwina from book one. With the help of Aileen Hopkins who is looking for her missing brother, the next leg is found before returning home to relay information. An exciting episode to be continued in the next book. I couldn't put it down until I had finished it. A good read.
